The birthday.

Twenty five. Twenty-flooping-five.
Me, post birthday celebrations on Saturday.

This is my new age and I sort of like it! Monday through Wednesday were more or less spent in a "getting to grips with being half way to thirty" stupor, but in the midst of the birthday blues I made a decision, a small one, but still a decision. I need to read more. I used to love reading and although I still read, it's become a bit of a chore and I'm not excited about it anymore. So to remedy this I've ordered myself a Kindle, 'cause you know how much I love new technology!

When it turned up today it wouldn't fit through the letter box and my Mister didn't hear the doorbell, so it's been sent back to the sorting office! Now I have to wait 'til the morning to pick it up.

*sulks*

There is an empty space where my Kindle should be...

While I wait for my ereader what thoughts do you have on books I should read? I feel like reading something a little whimsical; nothing too depressing. Is there anything out there you think I might like? Suggestions please! Old books or new. I'm not a fussy girl.

  1. Happy Birthday! If you want something light and sort of silly, how about "I was told there'd be cake." I think the author is Sloane Crosley. But a really awesome book that is not so light is "Black & White" by Dani Shapiro. I couldn't put it down. Have fun with the new kindle.

  2. Happy 25, Katherine! Women Who Run with the Wolves is most excellent, part whimsy, part thought provoking, part empowering.

  3. Hi! I just found your blog through Twitter and I'm really enjoying reading through some of the posts! If you're still looking for something to read and don't mind a story with a little bit of a magical/supernatural twist to it, I just finished reading "My Name is Memory" by Ann Brashares and enjoyed it. I might write a review about it on my blog in the next week or so, actually. If you do pick it up, just know that the ending just... drops off! That bugged me immensely, but the story was good, and apparently there is going to be a sequel! :-)
    P.S. Happy Birthday!!!
