Normally I'd use beads and hemp string for making jewelry but since I don't have any and my writer's block isn't lifting any time soon, I'm making do with some old tapestry silk and ... yes, buttons.
Goodbye Red
Since Red had passed away the night before, I woke up yesterday morning, knowing that I had to get him out of the tank. What with Oliver being away, he asked me to take Red to the moors and bury him. Now some would say it's a little extreme to bury a goldfish. I could have simply flushed him or, as one friend suggested, put him in the freezer 'til Oliver gets back. I couldn't do either of those. So in the end Red came with me to university. The poor little thing was in my handbag for 15 minutes while I walked to my car, then he had to stay in my car for a few hours while I had lectures. After putting it off and putting it off, eventually I drove to the moors. I felt a bit silly walking up there with a goldfish and a trowel and I kept thinking that I'd made some terrible mistake and when I took Red out of the box he'd start flipping again. This is the trouble with an over active imagination. With a flippy Red in mind I dug a hole, put him in and covered him as quickly as possible. I hope he didn't mind.
The never ending book cover
Ahhh...The elusive book cover that is yet to be finished. It's one of those quick knits that never gets done. Normally I'd blame it on not having enough time what all the writing I'm working on at the moment but that's not it. I have had time. There's time at the end of everyday before I go to sleep and still nothing happens. I must have lost the momentum for this pattern plus I have really cheap yarn and it's horrible to work with. It's this cheap stuff I picked up a few years back at a discount store. Maybe next time I won't be so thrifty.
Buttons, buttons everywhere.
This is a serious button crisis. I have two boxes of buttons and nothing to use them for. Although I knit, I'm no where near the stage of making a button up cardi: I can barely sit still long enough to knit a scarf. Someone suggested making fabric dolls and using the buttons as decoration. Any other suggestions for button usage? I'd love to use them for something special but if I keep them much longer I'll be swimming in them.
Little Red
Despite my best efforts to save him one of my goldfish died this evening. I came into the kitchen to find he'd flipped himself up on to the top of the filter. Goodness knows how long he'd been there but he wasn't breathing much at all. Managed to build him a makeshift intensive care unit and he seemed to perk up but in the end I think he was too old to deal with my NHS care. I told him he should have gone private.
I'll miss the funny little guy.
